Cropping Update & Water Insights Panel

Erin Munro, Agronomist with Summit Ag provided an update on the winter crops and potential summer crop. She discussed the factors that growers should be thinking about outside of yield and how current water allocations and prices could affect returns per megalitre. Our President, Kate Smith hosted the Water Insights Panel which included, Dave Harrison who spoke to current pricing, allocations and inter-valley trading. Bobbie Pannowitz discussed her work with landholders affected by the Reconnecting Rivers Program. Jenna Bell explained the Flood Work Approval process and her involvement with the Independent Review of the Snowy Water Inquiry Outcomes Implementation Deed.

PADDOCK TO PLATE

Our Autumn Paddock to Plate afternoon took us to 3 iconic venues in Coleambally. We heard first hand from agronomists and growers. We made soy milk-based cocktails, taste tested some local jams & relish and learnt how to make pasta! We finished the evening with a beautiful dinner featuring an impressive list of local ingredients.

WATER INSIGHTS EVENING

Our Water Insights Evening at the Gem Hotel, Friday 22nd August 2025, was a great success. We had about 20 young aggies, coming from all corners of our MI catchment. Our speakers Matt Woodward from the MDBA and Dave from Breed and Hutchison covered topics including water recovery, buybacks, inter-valley trading, cultural water, pricing and upcoming allocations. Callum Stewart from B&H also touched on the livestock markets, and what we can expect to see in the next few months regarding breeding stock numbers, supply and pricing. We hope to hold this event each year, so your feedback and suggestions are always welcome.
